Earth Hour

Status: Active

Earth Hour is a World Wildlife Fund global initiative, coordinated in Guernsey by G-CAN.

At 8pm on Saturday 29th March 2008, communities across the world turned off their lights for just one hour – Earth Hour – to show that it’s possible to take action on global warming. Guernsey was one of those communities.

We are doing it again at 8.30pm on Saturday 28th March 2009.

What is it all about?
Switching off non-essential lighting is a simple action that makes a positive difference to climate change, and it sends a powerful message that the people of the world care about the future of the planet. It’s a gesture that shows how a small change on an individual level can amount to a significant change in the bigger picture.

Those 60 minutes of relative darkness are a chance for us to think about our energy use and be inspired to find ways to use energy more carefully.
